Top 10 Greatest Horror Manga Ever

Horror is a unique genre that cannot be compared to any other. Even the thriller genre does not offer us the same chills as the horror category. As a result, horror manga series, like horror anime, are worth reading.

So, do you want to read the best horror manga? If that's the case, all you need is a good list, which we have right here. So, shall we start our list of scary manga now?

Fraction

Fraction

Synopsis: The first half of the book is made up of the titular story, a serial killer thriller that gets all kinds of meta and crazy as it progresses. The second half of the book consists of a short interview with Kago (and Ryuichi Kasumi, a Japanese crime fiction writer) and a number of short stories.

If you haven't read any of Kago's earlier works, you should be cautious before diving into this one. It contains NSFW imagery, but it elevates the story to a whole new level and thrills you to death.

Corpse Party

Corpse Party

Synopsis: Corpse Party revolves around a group of students from Kisaragi Academy and their teacher. To cheer up one of their classmates who's going to transfer schools, they perform a charm called Sachiko Ever After so they can remain friends forever. However, something goes wrong and they end up trapped in Heavenly Host Elementary School. Now, they have to find the way out of the cursed school.

Corpse Party may not be a fantastic read, but it does present a nice premise as well as a mysterious notion. However, do not read this before going to bed.

Another

Another

Synopsis: In 1972, a popular student in Yomiyama North Middle School's class 3-3 named Misaki passed away during the school year. Since then, the town of Yomiyama has been shrouded by a fearful atmosphere, from the dark secrets hidden deep within.

Twenty-six years later, 15-year-old Kouichi Sakakibara transfers into class 3-3 of Yomiyama North and soon after discovers that a strange, gloomy mood seems to hang over all the students. He also finds himself drawn to the mysterious, eyepatch-wearing student Mei Misaki; however, the rest of the class and the teachers seem to treat her like she doesn't exist. Paying no heed to warnings from everyone including Mei herself, Kouichi begins to get closer not only to her, but also to the truth behind the gruesome phenomenon plaguing class 3-3 of Yomiyama North.

Another follows Kouichi, Mei, and their classmates as they are pulled into the enigma surrounding a series of inevitable, tragic events—but unraveling the horror of Yomiyama may just cost them the ultimate price.

Another excellent horror manga, in my opinion. It has everything a reader might want, such as suspense, g#re, mystery, and what else? If you haven't read it yet, you should do so right now.

Devil’s Line

Devil’s Line

Synopsis: Vampires walk among society, existing as part of its underbelly. They do not require blood to survive, but extreme emotions can immensely increase their bloodlust, turning them into uncontrollable monsters. Tsukasa Taira, a 22-year-old university student, learns of the existence of vampires when her longtime friend reveals himself to be one of them after a tense confrontation with Yuuki Anzai—a human and vampire hybrid.

Her friend is arrested, and Tsukasa soon finds herself drawn to Anzai, who reluctantly reciprocates her feelings. However, this unconventional romance may prove too difficult to maintain, as Anzai struggles to contain the part of him that wishes to devour Tsukasa.

Devil's Line is not your average vampire romance manga. It's strange, disturbing, and very awesome. Although there isn't as much fear as in ghost stories, it's still worth reading.

Battle Royale

Battle Royale

Synopsis: Every year, a class is randomly chosen to be placed in a deserted area where they are forced to kill each other in order to survive. Initially believed to be on a graduation trip, Shuuya Nanahara and the rest of Shiroiwa Junior High's Class B find that they have been chosen to participate in this game of life and death known as "The Program."

Waking up to the realization that they have been quarantined on an island, the 42 students discover they have been fitted with metal collars which will detonate if certain conditions are not met. In order to obtain freedom, they must slaughter everyone else by whatever means necessary, and the last one standing is deemed the winner. As each member of the class heads down their own path, Shuuya makes it his goal to get off the island without playing the game in order to put an end to this madness once and for all.

This manga is, in my opinion, the most authentic portrayal of a Battle Royale game. The excitement, terror, pace, art, and even the plot are all fantastic. If you haven't read it yet, do so right immediately.

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia

Synopsis: A young woman, by some strange occurrence, was left to die alone in the former building of Seikyou Academy. Mysteriously, there is one person who can see her in ghost form: Niiya Teiichi, a freshman. Now they both seek to find out the reasoning behind her death, and what could have caused it.

Despite the fact that this comic contains a lot of fanservice, it does not hinder your enjoyment in any way. It has a fascinating narrative that includes romance and mystery. If you haven't read a decent romantic horror manga in a long time, this could be for you.

Pigpen

Pigpen

Synopsis: A relaxing getaway in paradise, or a death trap? A young man wakes up on a breathtaking beach, but he has no idea who he is or how he got there. Try as he might to piece it all together, untangling this mind-bending mystery won’t be easy when every clue leads to more maddening questions... and the family that welcomes him into their home is not what they seem.

Horror and mystery complement one other like bread and jam. Despite the fact that this is a webtoon, the narrative is similar to that of Japanese horror manga, and there will be no breaks between chapters.

Shadows House

Shadows House

Synopsis: Shadows House—a strange mansion that receives no callers, inhabited by a race of faceless shadows who play at being aristocrats and are waited on hand and foot by “living dolls,” who also serve as their masters' faces. What goes on inside this enigmatic manor is anyone's guess, but soot and shrieks billow up from within…

Isn't the synopsis a little dull? But wait a minute before you dismiss it because once you've finished reading it, you'll say these words: What a Story! Every second of your leisure time will be well spent.

Mieruko-chan

Mieruko-chan

Synopsis: One day, Miko suddenly started seeing grotesque beings that others couldn't. Her response was not to run, not to face them, but to do everything she could to completely ignore them! Can she keep a straight face and continue her day-to-day life while surrounded by horrifying monsters?

Mieruko-chan is an unusual character in the horror genre. This manga takes a bit to pique your interest, but once it does, it becomes a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. So, if you haven't read this horror manga yet, you should do so right now.

Shiver: Junji Ito Selected Stories

Shiver: Junji Ito Selected Stories

A best-of-story selection by the master of horror manga.

Synopsis: This volume includes nine of Junji Ito’s best short stories, as selected by the author himself and presented with accompanying notes and commentary. An arm peppered with tiny holes dangles from a sick girl’s window… After an idol hangs herself, balloons bearing faces appear in the sky, some even featuring your own face… An amateur film crew hires an extremely individualistic fashion model and faces a real bloody ending… An offering of nine fresh nightmares for the delight of horror fans.

It is divided into ten chapters, each with its unique set of merits. With each chapter, you'll be treated to new enthralling stories full of twists and turns. So, help yourself to this terrifying manga that will leave you speechless.
